Then there's the world itself, with the realistic visual style at odds with the design that just sees rails, boost pads, and springs plonked around the place almost at random like some kind of dev test map or fan project. Is it just us or does everything seem a bit off here? The lack of any real sense of speed or momentum is a cardinal sin for a Sonic game, but it's the lack of purpose that is even more troubling - it's just Sonic strolling around a big empty husk of a world, solving the same basic generic puzzles we've seen in every other open world game over the years as filler content.
